Round table 1: Formal sector and care services

This session will focus on the broad issue of women at work with a focus on the role of domestic workers and their support to women involved in the formal sector. Domestic workers comprise a significant part of the workforce in the informal sector in Africa and globally. They are often the most vulnerable groups of workers as majority work without clear terms of employment, unregistered for any benefits and excluded from the scope of labour registration in most countries. In this session, we explore how transformative leadership for women’s rights can ensure the recognition of the care economy and champion for the rights of women providing care services.
